TT$ 3.75 million in grants to be awarded to 42 i2i winners

Forty–two (42) applicants have been selected as winners of the 2014 idea to innovation (i2i) programme. These winners which comprise individuals, project teams, and companies, were selected from 493 submissions and will be awarded grants ranging from $75,000 to $200,000 to take their ideas to proof of concept, in one year. The 2014 i2i winners will be formally recognised at an award ceremony on September 10, 2014 at the IMAX Theatre in Woodbrook. These grants which total TT$3.75 million will be funded by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago through its TT$10 million Innovation Financing Facility, a resource which was established to support entrepreneurial initiatives which have the potential to contribute to economic growth. read more  |  view pdf

The idea 2 innovation programme (i2i) is today commencing its third year. This is by no means an easy feat, and for all of the hard work that has gone into making the i2i an institution of hope and opportunity I thank and congratulate the staff of the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development and the Council for Competitiveness and Innovation (CCI), as well as the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) and the National entrepreneurship Development Company (NEDCO). I also thank all of people with ideas who have worked to become successes under this programme, and I encourage them to continue to become ambassadors for future entrepreneurs and innovators. The Council for Competitiveness and Innovation (CCI) was established in January 2011 as an advisory body to the Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development. Key to its mandate among other things, was to improve the country’s competitiveness by championing the national importance and awareness of innovation and competitiveness. Towards this end, in 2012, the Council launched and managed the Idea 2 Innovation or i2i competition. The main objective of this programme was to start the process of building and promoting the importance of innovation on a national level, which in turn will result in improved competitiveness. The competition which is now in its third year gave an opportunity to potential innovators and inventors to submit proposals for innovative and creative ideas and if selected, they would receive grants between $75,000 to $200,000 to take their idea to proof of concept in one year or less. read more  |  view pdf

Planning Ministry launches Idea 2 Innovation (i2i) Competition

Potential innovators and inventors will be able to access grants of $75,000 to $200,000 to bring their ideas to proof of concept following the launch of the third rounds of the idea to innovation (i2i) competition, at the Hilton Hotel, on Thursday May 1, 2014. The i2i competition is being launched by the Council for Competitiveness and Innovation (CCI) of the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development and is part of a $10million Innovation Financing Facility established by Government, to provide finance for enterprises and initiatives that will contribute measurably to the sustainable development of Trinidad and Tobago.
