i2i Moves into its Second Year Tapping into Trinbagonian Innovativeness

Port of Spain, TRINIDAD, May 29 2013. The Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development, through the Council for Competitiveness and Innovation (CCI), launched the “i2i: Idea 2 Innovation” Competition for 2013 on Wednesday 29th, 2013.
With the success of the initiative last year, this year’s competition hopes to further equip prospective innovators with the knowledge necessary to ensure that their projects become successful business enterprises. The competition was thus themed, “Toolkit for Success”.
Held at the Napa hotel, the launch was divided into two sections. The first was a speed-networking session, where selected, lucky representatives from UWI, UTT, COSTATT, USC, the Arthur Lok Jack School of Business, and the Trinidad and Tobago Entrepreneurship & Innovation Club were able to meet with professionals from various business sectors and discuss their ideas. The formal part of the launch followed, and the speed-networking participants were joined by specially invited guests from the Economic Development Board (EDB), members of the CCI and other institutions. The Feature Address was given by the Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Bhoendradatt Tewarie and Rikhi Permanand, Executive Director of the EDB and the Council for Competitiveness and Innovation also addressed the audience.
The Council for Competitiveness and Innovation (CCI) was established in January 2011 as an advisory Council to the Minister of Planning and the Economy aimed at significantly improving Trinidad and Tobago’s global competitiveness ranking, and mainstreaming innovation as key drivers of a diversified knowledge-based economy.
